ROOTS solves the problem of inaccessible access to valuable information about food sources. Having access to data about food origins and their benefits is important to give users control over their choices around the food that they consume.
ROOTS serves as an informational guide for users by providing fundamental data that doesn’t exist within the food industry for day-to-day users. ROOTS provides a solution to finding information about food that connects cultures and cuisine.

The monotone color scheme is used to show the variations of depth within roots in addition to the simplicity in their basic color.
The static buttons on ROOTS aim to enclose information in a unified manner. Underlined buttons are an abstraction of roots in their most basic form; these represent the start of a chain of connections while the enclosed boxes are the roots' final product of joined roots.
- User had an experience of buying blueberries from Chile during the winter and found them to be tasteless.

- User also wanted to know how the food was grown (if it was processed, organic etc.)
- User wanted to know what they could create with an item.
- They don’t like to spend much time reading and like short recipe videos that are easy to follow.
- User wanted to know about other purposes for the foods they consume including their health benefits.
- User likes to read but mentioned they prefer to click on a ‘read more’ link instead of being forced to read something in full immediately.
Users from my target audience wanted to know where their food was sourced from and when and where it's best to purchase foods that are in season.
Based on feedback from a technical expert, I decided to include a backside on my printed research to elaborate on health benefits for each food item.
Food and curiosity were the seeds to start ROOTS. Sharing food with family and friends is an important interaction for sustainable life. I wanted to create a connective piece on information about food for people to share. The development of ROOTS is a growing project for the purpose of educating people about food history, to culminate genealogies of food as a resource. Digital and print mediums serve to provide accessible spaces where ROOTS can live and grow in the design community.
